Nolan Tidwell

>This summer Nolan Tidwell and his family were a part of the ABC World of X Games production of the Trail of Missions. The trip is an epic 10-day off-road journey through the desert and beaches of Baja California, Mexico, which follows the paths between the many historical European and Jesuit missions settled in the region from the 1400s through the 1800s. Nolan was able to use much of what he has learned in his 7 years as a Liberty-Common student to understand the significance and details of the history he was observing, and often had an opportunity to educate the adults and other kids on the trip about the architecture, building methods, locations, and chronology of the sites. His knowledge and vocabulary set him apart on the trip, and allowed him to be featured often on the production of the show, which first aired last Sun 1 Sep 2019. He also enjoyed a significant amount of drive time behind the wheel, including jumps in the road, and water “smashings” as they call them, all while learning a lot about the industry of motor sports, which was music to his ears.

His parents, Dillon and Elke Tidwell, appreciate that the cultural literacy, extensive knowledge, and significant vocabulary Nolan has gained at LCS, allowed him to excel in an environment completely removed from the classroom and academic world. His experience proved that what people know truly matters, and will benefit students in many aspects of life, regardless of what activities they pursue. The full show will be available soon on YouTube. Search "The World Of X Games 2019 Trail of Missions" if you’d like to see what Nolan was up to this summer.
