Ms. Megan Burgess, is thrilled to be joining the staff and community at Liberty Common School this upcoming fall as an Academic Support Resource Instructor. She graduated with her chemistry degree from the University of Delaware and holds her Master’s in science education from Montana State University. She has taught middle-school and high-school math and science for 14 years and absolutely loves helping students to succeed. She recently moved from the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, where she specialized in supporting students diagnosed with various learning disabilities to reach their full potential in the classroom. For her graduate-school capstone project, she wrote and produced supplemental tutorial videos to assist students diagnosed with ADHD in the chemistry classes. When she’s not supporting students, she enjoys paddle boarding, traveling, volleyball, and singing her favorite tunes. She also loves using her chemistry skills to whip up tasty meals! Ms. Burgess is excited for the opportunity to serve the students at Liberty and to empower them to reach their personal and academic goals.

BrennanKatrina Brennan is excited to join the Liberty Common team as a 3rd-grade TA. She and her family recently moved back from living four years in Ningbo, China where her husband, Andy taught at a university. While in China, Katrina home schooled her three children, Logan (14), Taya (11), and Daisy (9), who will all be at Liberty this year. Katrina holds a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and Masters degree in TESOL. She and her family love to travel, play games, hike, and read.

BrownJennifer Brown grew up in Northern Virginia and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Christopher Newport University. In Virginia, she taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grade before starting her family with her husband, Matthew. Together, they have three daughters - Ainsley, Clarke, and Norah. Jen has lived in Rhode Island, California, and Spain. She spent her time away from teaching leading a command support team, working closely with military families living overseas and facing the challenges of deployment and family separation. She restarted her time in the classroom after being a stay-at-home mom for six years teaching kindergarten in San Diego, California. Following the completion of her husband's time in the US Navy, Jen has settled with her family in Colorado and taught 1st grade in Loveland last year. She loves crafting, camping and hiking with her family, and is loving the chance to explore all that Colorado has to offer.

FowlerLCHS’s new assessment coordinator, Miss Michalla Fowler, graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in English. After working in CSU’s Mathematics Department while attending classes, she continued to apply her administrative work in multiple roles that led her to being the operations manager of a transportation company. Her dream is to complete a Master’s program in library, science, and technology to make her way to becoming a librarian. She looks forward to getting married in February 2020.

HoughtonCindy Houghton is new to the third-grade team. She has a Bachelor and Master's degree in elementary education. She and her husband, Richard, celebrated 28 years of marriage this summer, and are enjoying a new phase of life as empty nesters. They welcomed a son-in-law, Anthony, to their family of four children in July. Cindy's family enjoys playing games, Jeep rides, go carts, and spending time in the mountains. She is looking forward to getting to know the students and families in third grade.

KetchamLCHS’s new history instructor, Mr. Andrew Ketcham, earned both his B.A. (philosophy and history) and his M.A. (history) from The University of Texas at Austin. His graduate studies focused on medieval European history with a research emphasis on Anglo-Saxon legal history. He is very excited to join the Liberty Common faculty after moving to Fort Collins from Florida where he taught community-college history. Outside of academic pursuits, Andrew enjoys hiking, camping, powerlifting, martial arts, and watching Longhorns football. Liberty Common School provides an unparalleled educational environment and Andrew is elated for an opportunity to contribute to the intellectual development of Liberty’s young scholars.

KingChristie King is a 2nd-generation Colorado native, raised in Fort Collins, and a graduate of UNC. Christie has a B.A. in elementary and early childhood education, and has been involved in education as an elementary-school teacher, tutor, camp director and home-school mom. She has been married for 30 years to her husband Trey. They have seven sons and daughters, two of whom are married. The King home is full of laughter, love and books, and lots and lots of books. As a young child, Christie fell in love with reading. Her favorite author was Laura Ingalls Wilder. Christie read every one of Wilder's "Little House" books many times over. Reading was Christie's time machine to new places and new adventures. As a teenager, after school and practices, she'd run to her room, shut her bedroom door, and escape into a favorite book. Even today, reading is one of her favorite pastimes. Christie is so excited to work with the Academic Support Team this year. Her goal is to encourage a passion for reading and learning in all her LCS students.

KirbyBorn and raised in Taiwan, Kit Kirby earned her Bachelors degree in graphic design from Fresno State University. After working seven years as a graphic designer in California, she and her family relocated to Fort Collins where she has been a stay at home mom for the past nine years. All three of her children, Max (5th), Kate (3rd) and Lucas (1st) have attended Liberty since kindergarten. Kit and her husband Mike will celebrate their 16th wedding anniversary in October. Her family loves nature and they enjoy hiking, biking and camping. Kit is looking forward to working with the wonderful Liberty staff and families.

LeVasseurCelia LeVasseur is a new TA in Ms. Pullin's Green Kindergarten class. Celia had so much fun as a parent volunteer in kindergarten last year that she is excited to be in the classroom again this year as a TA. Celia has two daughters at Liberty, Elise in 8th grade and Brielle in 1st grade. Jay, her husband of 18 years, works from home as a medical illustrator. Celia loves to bike, kayak, read historical fiction, and bake. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is so excited to be a part of the amazing Liberty team and get to work with kindergartners as they begin their journey.

MantheiElizabeth Manthei is so excited to begin her first full year of teaching 4th grade at Liberty Common. She completed her student teaching in 4th grade last fall at Highland Elementary, received her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado in December of 2018. Elizabeth was a substitute teacher in various classes and schools throughout the Spring of 2019 as she searched for a fulltime position. In the past three years, she worked in kindergarten through 5th grade in after-school programs, internships, tutoring opportunities, and student teaching. Elizabeth is thrilled to be teaching the rich curriculum and content at Liberty, and knows it will be a fantastic year.

MorrisonJoAnn Morrison is a new 2nd-grade TA. She is a CSU alumna with a Bachelors Degree in social sciences. JoAnn and her husband Rod have had the joy of raising their two children in lovely Fort Collins. Samantha (25) is a registered RN at Medical Center of the Rockies and Brad (22) is a behavioral coach at Turning Point. JoAnn looks forward to working with the wonderful staff at Liberty Common, and getting to know the students and their families.

NanceWhile attending Oklahoma State University, Jodi Nance received a degree in environmental health, and met her husband, David. This year, they will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. Jodi and David have four children; Shae (18), Ella (16), Gavin (14), and Emily (11). They also have two dogs, two cats, and 15 chickens. Shae (LCHS '19) is attending CU Boulder. The Nance family loves to travel and in July traveled throughout Europe for two weeks. Yoga is Jodi's favorite hobby as well as cooking and baking. Jodi is looking forward to another great year at Liberty and feels blessed to be a part of the amazing Liberty community.

ParsonsLCHS’s new science and math instructor, Mr. John Parsons, graduated from University of Colorado-Boulder with a degree in chemistry. After a short stint in the pharmaceutical industry in Kansas City, he began a 26-year career with the Hach Company in Loveland working as a chemist, and later as a technical instructor. After leaving corporate life to pursue a second career as a teacher, he pursued a dream and hiked half the Appalachian Trail in the fall of 2018. He lives in Loveland with his wife Joni, two golden retrievers, and has two children currently attending college. He is passionate about reading, cooking (and eating), hiking, skiing, teaching, canoeing, and rafting.

PerschauLCHS’s new seventh-grade English instructor, Mrs. Renee Perschau, has been involved with Liberty Common School both personally and professionally for many years, and she’s excited about this new beginning at the high school. She studied radio-television-film at Texas Christian University and received a post-baccalaureate degree in education from Southwest Texas State University. She worked as a radio news reporter in Austin, Texas and has taught junior-high and high-school English in Texas, Missouri, and Arizona. For the past four years, Ms. Perschau has enjoyed being a teacher’s aide at Liberty Common School. She loves spending time hiking, backpacking, and skiing with her husband and three children. She also enjoys reading, writing short stories, and running.

PowersCyndi Powers, Dean of Study, has been working with children and families for over 30 years. She is entering her 5th year at a charter school. Her passion is to empower students to learn from every opportunity in life and achieve excellence along their journey. Her professional experiences include teaching special education, and being an independent-living consultant for juveniles in out-of-home placements. She embraces any opportunity to be outdoors assisting her husband on their 40-alpaca farm, hiking in the mountains, cross country skiing, and spending time at their family cabin in Wyoming. She is excited to be proctoring in the Acropolis study hall, and adding a layer of support for students.

WallaceMr. Andrew Wallace was fresh to the music scene as a 5th-grader when he began singing in Centennial Children’s Choir, based in Fort Collins. From there, at Ridgeview Classical School, he nurtured his passion, going on to sing in musicals and choir throughout junior-high and high school. He then pursued a Bachelor of the Arts degree in music from Colorado State University, where he continued his love for performing in the university’s opera performances, and by being a part of Chamber Choir. After graduating in May of 2018, Andrew found his next current musical endeavors with his involvement in a professional acapella group called Collide Vocals, and in Anima Chamber Ensemble. It is with much excitement that he now joins our professional faculty here at Liberty Common High School. In his free time, Andrew enjoys running, spending time with his friends, and serving on the leadership team in the youth group at his church.
